Our Future

What will the future be like?
Will we be hunger free?
Will we all live in peace

and have freedom from fear?

Or will there be more famine
with manufactured food
and war is seen as good
from sea to rising sea?

It depends on us right now,
what we say, what we do
to help force changes through.
We are the hope for earth.

Mea Culpa

I come in peace
with good intent
My bad behavior
I certainly lament.

"Mea Culpa,"
is my real plea
I was not thinking
as you can plainly see.

Please forgive me.
I don't deserve
but hope for mercy;
that peace can be preserved.

Ghost Ranch Serenity

Sitting beneath the old cottonwood
with darkness all around,
the song of the universe
for miles the only sound

The blanket of stars overwhelms me
and takes my breath away.
The cosmos seems to hum;
stars twinkling seems like play.

The galaxy seems so peaceful
compared to strife on earth.
It's nice to hide away,
retreat to find rebirth.

Even in daytime the ranch brings peace;
the mesas surrounding;
their colors are calling,
vibrancy astounding.

On the more hectic days I climb them
finding stillness, unity
with the red sandstone,
joyful community.

At the top of the mesa I stand
and feel the urge to fly
like an eagle to soar
reaching to touch the sky.

The landscape is painted in reds and beige
with green shrubs forming lines,
as if  ready to march.
Blue sky frames God's design.

Ghost Ranch is basically perfection
painted by God's own hand;
sculpted by the angels,
seems like the Promised Land.

When I need peace it's where my mind goes;
climbing to Chimney Rock.
Far from daily bustle
I can fly like a hawk.

A Paradox Reconciled

Why do we see justice as blind
when, in truth, she must be able to see
more clearly than all of us in order
for any of us to be free?

Why do we seek peace with a sword
when swords only divide; bombs cannot bind?
Together is how we must learn to be,
Living as one, all humankind.

How can we value our freedom
yet use that freedom to oppress others?
We trap ourselves in our contradiction;
our own liberty then suffers.

We say that love is the center
of all that we are, of all we can be.
If that is true we must learn from each other,
reach out in trust and harmony.
